Books and Bites at Twigs

Description

What pairs well with a serving of tantalizing research? Has to be a scintillating discussion – at least that was the conclusion of the August 28 Books & Bites group. Mayo emeriti colleagues and guests met over lunch at Twigs to discuss and digest “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump,” by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. The discussion was lively with multiple viewpoints offered. The best part? Everyone parted as friends looking forward to the group’s next meeting.

For the main course we will be devouring a book suggested by Julie Cunningham, Ph.D., entitled “The Spy in the Archive: How One Man Tried to Kill the KGB,” by Gordon Corera. This is a true story about the life and espionage of Vasili Metrokhin. And for dessert? Jorge Rakela, M.D., encouraged us all to watch the film, “The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist” available on Amazon and Peacock and coming to Netflix mid-September. Dr. Rakela graciously agree to lead the discussion. Emeriti and guests are all welcome to attend. Discussion of the book and the film promises to provide the best menu in town.
