Medical Insurance Planning

Things to Consider as You Prepare for Retirement

The purpose of this section is to provide an overview of the various considerations associated with your medical benefit decisions in retirement.  It is advised to schedule a retirement meeting with a financial planner in the Office of Staff Services (OSS).  Call 507-266-0490 to schedule your appointment for Mayo Clinic Rochester.

Your medical benefits after retirement will change significantly and navigating your retirement benefits can be complicated.  Prior to retirement, you and your family were covered under a single policy the Mayo Medical Plan.  While working, your premiums were highly subsidized by Mayo and thus reasonably priced and claims management straightforward.  After retirement you and your spouse will require separate policies under the auspices of both government and private insurance programs.
