Winter Solstice & Christmas Star…Emeritus Event

By Neath Folger

The winter solstice or hibernal solstice, also known as midwinter, is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. This year, the winter solstice is on December 21st. The sun will set at 4:35 pm. This year’s winter solstice will be extra special as two planets, Jupiter and Saturn, will align on the same day to produce a Christmas Star!

That seems like the perfect time for emeriti to gather virtually, each in our respective homes, with a beverage of choice and raise a glass in anticipation of the Christmas Star and the sun's return. Remember, the days just get longer from here! Our time together will simply be a casual event and an opportunity to visit with others participating.

We hope to see you on the 21st!
