Meet the Mayo documentary filmmakers and more at premiere event in Rochester

A film premiere, an opportunity to meet the filmmakers exclusively for staff and volunteers, a block party and a drone light show are being planned for Monday, Sept. 10, to mark the making of the Ken Burns documentary, "The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope, Science."

Go behind the scenes with filmmakers Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers. This hourlong event exclusively for staff and volunteers will take an inside look at the making of the film, "The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope, Science," with stories both touching and hilarious.

The event will be held on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. at Mayo Civic Center, Taylor Arena, 30 Civic Center Drive SE, Rochester. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. No tickets or reservations are required. Bring your Mayo Clinic access identification card.

While tickets last, you still can make plans to attend the full-length film premiere of the documentary to be hosted by Twin Cities PBS and KSMQ Public Television on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Mayo Civic Center's Taylor Arena. A screening of the two-hour film will be followed by a panel discussion with Ken Burns, executive producer of the film, Dr. Noseworthy, and co-directors of the film, Erik Ewers and Christopher Loren Ewers.

A limited number of tickets are still available for this event. Don't miss your chance to pick up two tickets at the Mayo Civic Center Box Office using your Mayo Clinic access identification card. Box office hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adding to the fun on Sept. 10, a community block party will be held at the Mayo Civic Center Plaza (near the entrance to Taylor Arena) in Rochester. All are welcome to this event, which starts at 4:30 p.m. and will include live music by Annie Mack, activities for all ages, photo opportunities, and food and beverages. No tickets are required to attend the block party.

Following the film premiere, gather in Mayo Park (behind Mayo Civic Center) to enjoy a spectacular light show that will begin at approximately 10:15 p.m. In this first-of-its-kind public display in Rochester, you can watch 500 drones light up the sky to offer a dramatic visual retelling of the Mayo Clinic story through the use of lighted, synchronized drones. Share footage and photos of your night at the block party by using the hashtag #MayoClinicPBS on social media.

There will be shuttles from the Saint Marys Campus to the events from 3 to 6:45 p.m., running every 15 minutes. Pick up the shuttle in front of the Francis Building at Second Street SW, and you'll be dropped off at the Mayo Civic Center's north entrance.

Shuttles will return to the Saint Marys Campus, as well as the East and West lots from 5:30 to 10:45 p.m. Shuttles will run every 30 minutes from 5:30 to 10 p.m. and every 15 minutes from 10:15 to 10:45 p.m. Pick up the shuttle at the Mayo Civic Center north entrance.
