Casting Call: Here’s your chance to be in a Heritage Film

By Neath Folger

From Mayo News Center - April 27

As producer and director of the Mayo Clinic Heritage Film Series since its inception in 2004, Mark Flaherty, film producer and director, has brought many historic stories to life, but one theme has been constant.

“People often ask how they can be part of a Heritage Film,” Flaherty says. “I’m telling them, this is your year.”

The 2018 film is entitled “Where Healing Begins: The Mayo Clinic Experience.” Flaherty explains: “It explores Mayo’s unique environment – architecture, art, nature, systems and people, all of which contribute to a patient’s sense of well-being. Part of the story calls for showing a typical, busy day in the Landow Atrium and other public areas of the Gonda Building.”

The scene will be filmed on two weekend dates: Sunday, May 20, and Saturday, June 23. “We’re looking for people of all ages to portray patients and employees,” says Flaherty. “Children are welcome, too. No acting experience is required. You can choose to be with us for a few hours or all day long.”

If you’d like to be a part of this year’s film, send an email to flaherty.mark@mayo.edu by May 4. A member of the production team will contact you with more information.

This is a volunteer, non-paid opportunity. Each participant will receive a complimentary DVD of the film.

The film will premiere during Heritage Days, October 1-5, with showings on every campus. The Mayo Clinic Heritage Film Series was founded by benefactors John T. and Lillian G. Mathews. Click here to see the online library of films.
