Volunteer Opportunity Friday, April 20, 2018

By Neath Folger

Another opportunity for emeriti staff from Dena Mundy.

I coordinate the Integrated Science Education Outreach (InSciEdOut) Program for Rochester, which is a collaboration between the Mayo Clinic, Winona State University, and Rochester Public Schools. We offer professional development for school staff, assist in curriculum development, and support with resources.

We have been asked to assist the seventh-graders at Kellogg Middle School as they study body systems. Medical specialists with experience in cardiology, gastroenterology, immunology, musculoskeletal, neurology, and pulmonology are needed to meet with small groups of students throughout the day on Friday, April 20, 2018 to answer their questions as they continue their research in these areas.

If you have experience in one of these areas, please consider signing up for a block of time to answer their questions. The times listed are the start and end times of the class. Please plan on arriving ten minutes early to check in with the office, show your identification, and find your designated classroom. Register today by visiting:

The time commitment is up to the individual. They may sign up for one class period, a block of classes, or the entire day using the Sign-Up Genius link provided http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a48abac2da1fd0-speed. Kellogg Middle School is located at 503 17th Street NE, Rochester. The only thing the volunteers would need to do to prepare is to find their driver’s license or other identification to show the office staff. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the office. A staff member will help be on hand to answer questions and show them to the designated classroom.

Once in the room, they will meet with small groups of students to answer questions about their specialty area. These students have been studying body systems and the impact of certain toxins on zebrafish. Individuals don’t need to know anything about zebrafish. This section is human focused.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
