TRIP TO GILBERT & SULLIVAN’S “PRINCESS IDA”

DATE: Sat. March 17         TIME:  Bus leaves at 12:00 p.m.

Please join us for Gilbert & Sullivan’s operetta “Princess Ida” presented at the Howard Conn Fine Arts Center in Minneapolis on Saturday, March 17, 2018. The bus will depart from Charter House at 12:00 noon and return approximately 5:00 p.m.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida was based on Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s narrative poem, The Princess, published in 1847.  Tennyson’s poem told the story of a princess who heroically forswears the world of men and founds a women’s university where men are forbidden to enter.  The prince to whom she was betrothed in infancy enters the university with two friends, disguised as women students.  They are discovered and flee, but eventually they fight a battle for the princess’s hand.  They lose and are wounded, but the women nurse the men back to health.  Eventually the princess returns the prince’s love.

Please up sign at the Charter House Resident Service Center by Monday, February, 12, 2018 if you plan to attend.  The cost of transportation and concert is $82.00 per person, we must have 15 or more to go.  (Please note that if we have 20 or more signed up, the price of the trip will be $61.00 per person.)
