IMPORTANT! Outlook Web Access changes effective October 24th

By Neath Folger

Outlook Web Access (webmail) allows email access from any device connected to the internet.. These changes affect Outlook Web Access from these addresses:

Effective October 24th in an effort to improve information security, Outlook Web Access will only allow viewing of selected types of files and file downloads of any size will no longer be allowed.

You still will still be able to open and review selective type of files in your web browser however. These include Word, Power Point, Excel documents as wells as well as rtf and pdf files. Other file types cannot be viewed. Also, attachments larger than 5 megabytes cannot be viewed.

When viewing files, your web browser will show all text, graphics, tables and hyperlinks in a form that is easy to read. However, the viewed content may look somewhat different from the original file even though no changes are made.

Changes to Outlook Web Access do not affect email access through virtual private network (VPN) access or mobile device management.

If you have not already done so, this might also be a good time to consider opening an alternate email provider via Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc. given the growing security concerns and restrictions for internet use and would allow greater flexibility with file types and downloads.
